Jeffrey Carpoff and others pleaded guilty to perpetrating a $1 billion Ponzi scheme through DC Solar. The firm is prosecuting all litigation claims held by the trustee. To date, Meland Budwick, P.A., has achieved over $100 million in litigation recoveries. This includes claims against financial institutions (for $11.625 million & 9 million), financial professionals (for $11.25 million & $3.2 million), and clawback targets (including a 100% $19.5 million recovery from the IRS for income tax payments made on behalf of wrongdoers and $5.75 million from NASCAR). Recently, the firm recovered $20 million from Nixon Peabody, LLP, DC Solar’s primary outside counsel, and secured a judgment against a transferee for $2.7 million, successfully defending the ruling before the 9th Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. The firm continues to prosecute a $33 million avoidance action against one of the largest privately held businesses in Nevada and a $6 million claim against a former broker. In addition, the firm is pursuing a nine-figure tort claim against a national professional services firm and a seven-figure claim against an attorney who pled guilty to laundering millions of dollars following the collapse of the fraud.

Successfully represented a web-based prediction platform and Israeli national in defense against action alleging breach of contract, fraud, wire fraud, and securities fraud.

Successfully represented Bivens plaintiff’s appeal of Judgment Notwithstanding Verdict to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
